Spider Webs

The delicate lines and forms of spider webs, bring an interesting dimension to the garden space.  Whether one likes spiders or not, spiders are an important asset to the garden environment and its life.

While not ignoring the many beneficial aspects of spiders in the garden, in this posting Gardens at Waters East will focus only on the beauty, design, and fragility that spider webs bring to all gardens.

Check out the beauty, the design, and the fragile nature seen in these webs.

Garden Lanterns - -Watershed #5

The Chicago Botanic Garden - Japanese Garden

There are twenty-four different garden areas covering 385 acres at the Chicago Botanic Garden.  This posting will share a few photos of the Japanese Garden, focusing on some of the many lanterns used in that garden.  It is easy to spend hours within that area and many more hours in the other well developed gardens.  In a future posting, other sections of the botanic garden will be shown.  The Chicago Botanic Garden is in the southern reaches of the watershed that cradles the Gardens at Waters East.

In the Japanese Garden of the CBG, there is wonderful sense of calm and serenity.  It is so inviting and relaxing.  Like Gardens at Waters East, you too might find a number of “ideas” to incorporate into your own garden space.

Relax, be at peace, enjoy this short photo tour.

In the original past posting - - July 2, 2011,  basic ideas with lots of facts were shared about watersheds,  especially the watershed area that cradles Gardens at Waters East.
Additional postings on the watershed can be found in the archives of this Blog on:  September 9, 2011,  October 17, 2011,  February 3, 2012 and March 1, 2012.  All of these postings have interesting comments and photos.  All encouraged you to look at your own watershed and how it is being treated by others – and by you.

Enjoy

The storm started on Friday, then really got heavy all day Saturday with blowing and snowing.  On Sunday there was what is called “lake effect snow” coming in off Lake Michigan for the whole day, continuing hour after hour.  Today the snow is over, clouds move in and move out with some great hours sunshine!

This weekend was the first large snow storm of the season here along the shore of the Gardens at Waters East.  More than eight inches of heavy wet snow fell here at the lake.
Really beautiful – but now lets have Spring!

Reference Note:
If you like Winter photos,  see many many more in the series call Photo EssayWinter (parts #1-#9) in the archives for April 4th and 5th 2011.  After viewing those you probably will have had enough, though admittedly there are some beautiful Winter scenes of Gardens at Waters East found there from sunrises to sunsets and everything in between.

Beauty in Moss - - Watershed #4

There are many different mosses growing in the watershed area that surrounds and cradles Gardens at Waters East.  Here are a number of them found while hiking some of the nearby nature preserves that are part of the rocky cliffs and shoreline of the Niagara Escarpment:    Mink River - Schoenbrunn Trail,    Cave Point,    Whitefish Dunes State Park,    The Clearing,    Bay Shore Blufflands,    and the Ice Age Trail.   All of the mosses in the area have interesting characteristics, forms, and textures.
Just take a look!

Note of Interest:
Every photo, repeat, every photo posted on this Blog has been and will continue to be only photos taken on the property of Gardens at Waters East.

The exception will be those posted in the series – Watershed.  For important facts, details, and an overview of the watershed, refer to the archive posting of July 2, 2011.  The information there will place all the photos in this special series in a proper context.
