Fossils - StoneWater Beach

During the recent summer while hiking along StoneWater Beach, the shore along the Gardens at Waters East,  a number of interesting fossils were found.  For millions of years before the last ice age, this area was part of a great sea.  There are many fossils of ancient sea life that can be found as one walks along kicking up the stones.

Many of the fossils found here are more than four-hundred million years old.  These stones, these fossils, trigger reflection and meditation and thoughts of what lived here so long ago; and the spirits of all that life frozen here in time.

Here one can uncover and discover all kinds of life that at one time called this place home.  Journey with me as together we will find “treasures” of ancient life.  Here are twelve of the many!  Any ideas of what is what???

THE TREE #9

This is the ninth posting in the series “THE TREE” which follows the life of a special Honey Locust tree in the Gardens at Waters East.  If you have not read the first posting, it might be most helpful for you to do that.  Go to the archives in this Blog and check out the posting – Beginnings - found on March 7, 2014.  Reading this short introduction will put this tree, this posting, and future postings in proper perspective.  It will be helpful.

This posting looks at THE TREE with a focus on the seed pods as the season now comes to a close.  Notice how they have changed these weeks since the last posting.  The gardens are now approaching their final moments of the season so do enjoy the photos as time moves us into the final months of the year.      These pictures were all taken since the last posting about THE TREE.

Enjoy your visit to - THE TREE

Watershed #22 - Peninsula Park - Autumn Hike

This, the last week of October, was a good time to get out to see the remaining colors on parts of the Niagara Escarpment that stretches across Peninsula Park in Door County.  The rock formation is interesting itself, (if you want to know more about it click on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/niagara_escarpment)  however the hike this week was to check out the remaining colors in the most popular camping park in Wisconsin.  The trail that was hiked is called Eagle Trail and runs along the base of the sheer cliffs at the edge of the bay of Green Bay - - massive and irregular rugged rock formations rising 240 feet that make for beautiful scenery.

Many of the leaves have fallen, but lots still remained.  Plus, here and there, it was easy to find flowers still in bloom.  Once again way too many photos taken.  Here then are only a few of them so that you get the “feel” of the season in a place so near and so special.

Enjoy you hike today – the colors & the rock formations.

All photos posted on this Blog are taken on the property of Garden at Waters East, except for those posted in this series titled – Watershed.  You can find many postings under this title in the archives.  The watershed for the gardens is a vast territory that nourishes the land and the people for hundreds of miles around the gardens.  The overview below shows the extent of the watershed for Gardens at Waters East.
