Whitespire Birch

This is the Whitespire Birch Tree in the yard here at the Gardens at Waters East.  I took this photo early in the morning – June 17 at 5:22 AM  in the morning.  Love how the early sunrise gives it a golden look.

( Information form the garden book:   Whitespire has a beautiful spire-like upright form, white non-exfoliating bark and excellent bronze birch borer resistance. Leaves are glossy, dark green turning yellowish-green in fall. Whitespire Birch is very adaptable preferring moist, well drained, slightly acidic soils. Selected over twenty years ago by Dr. Edward R. Hasselkus at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Arboretum.)

It is rather OBVIOUS

You can tell it is Winter!!

You may ask - - how can you tell this?  Very easy, it is obvious.   This is when I do more postings on the Blog.  It is my way of winter gardening jajaja!!!  Can not do much outside.

The snow is on the ground, all is white, the weather is cold, winds blow strong and noting is growing outside.

So there are a few more postings at this time of year than normal!!!

Yucca - in the garden

Yucca

These are photos taken of the one and only Yucca plant in the gardens. It always looks to me like it belongs in a desert and not growing in the climate of Lake Michigan.  But it does well here as you can see.

Yucca -- from the dictionary - - a plant of the agave family with stiff sword-like leaves and spikes of white bell-shaped flowers that are dependent upon the yucca moth for fertilization, found especially in warm regions of North America and Mexico. )

As you can see, it is still growing tall.

 Blooms are starting.

Someone else is enjoying the flowers.

Ryan Park - Nature Preserve

Ryan Park is small nature preserve near to the Gardens at Waters East.  It is about five miles west of the gardens.  On the day I was there, I hiked a two mile trail.  As you can see the colors are all soft yellows.  Nice and bright beneath the canopy of leaves.
A reminder here of what life was like only a few short weeks ago – before the SNOW!
Enjoy

 A beautiful place to walk!

 Love finding mushrooms.

 A hiker in the woods

I have no idea how this got there -
but sometime in the pass someone went a little crazy!

Hope you enjoyed the hike - I did!
