A Second Look - Hybridized Day Lilies 2015 part 2

Part 2 of a two-part posting:
In early August of this year (see archives) many photos were posted of the hybridized day lilies created here in the Gardens at Waters East.  This posting will show some additional photos of those plants and more.

#X3.5

In this gardener’s mind, the most unique plants that grow here are the hybridized Day Lilies that were “created” here on the property.  It all started eight (8) years ago in 2007 and continued for an additional two years.  At this point this year, the lilies really did put on a show for the summer blooming season.  It has taken them a few years to mature – and this year they were at their best.
More than 450 different hybridized day lilies were developed here that exist no place else on Earth – some of them sort of “not so good”, but some are really excellent specimens – rather beautiful to say the least!  All are coded for reference to the “parents” and even “grandparents” giving a history of the development of these unique plants.

Some can be noted because of their color, some for their unique patterns and markings, some for their multiple blooming, some for their super strong stems, some for their scents and fragrance.  All were a surprise since this gardener had never done anything like this before!

In Your Face #10

In Your Face!!!

Me, me, me.  Look at me.  No, look at me.  Better yet, skip all those and look at me!  Walking through the Gardens at Waters East, one almost hears this constant refrain.  Every plant wants attention.  Every bloom is screaming – “I’m so beautiful just look at me!”  In many cases they are right.  Take a look at some of the beauties basking in the sun and calling to be the center of your attention. Checkout the detail of some of the garden residents.

Missouri Primerose

All of these “portraits” were take here in the gardens.  Self centered though they may be, the flowers do make you stop and stare.  They seem to be doing “their thing” just for you.  So why not indulge them for a few moments while walking the paths.

Here then are photos for this posting

even if you only pick one or two of the photos - pause a moment

JUST the LAKE #1

Here are a few photos focusing on the lake – Lake Michigan – which stretches along the acres of the Gardens at Waters East.   The lake brings so much to the gardens in the Summer, Winter and all the seasons of the year.

Each posting in this series will not only post great photos of views from the gardens, but also three or more must know  “facts” about Lake Michigan in each posting in the series – Just the Lake.

Enjoy the beauty of the lake out beyond the gardens.

FACT:  The name Lake Michigan is derived from the Ojibwa Indian word mishigami – meaning large lake.

FACT:  LENGTH:  307 miles / 494 km.

FACT:  BREADTH:  118 miles / 190 km.

FACT:  The region is often referred to as the "Third Coast" of the United States, after those of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

THE TREE 2015 #10

This is the tenth in the series – The Tree – Scotch Pine

Three sunrises since the last posting, as seen from THE TREE

Last month – November – we viewed THE TREE and the Gardens at Waters East as they were cut back and prepared for the winter season.  This posting is the December celebration of light.  THE TREE is decorated here for the first time.  It can now be enjoyed in the evenings during these long dark days of winter.  Solar lights were used – and they work well!

Enjoy one last look for the year,
and do enjoy the views of Lake Michigan – at the East edge of the gardens.

The following are photos of THE TREE
decorated with winter lights for the whole season of cold and snow.
