Run up to Door County in Wisconsin

Took a quick run up to Door County recently.  I like that place.  So many places to visit and things to experience.  No wonder it is a tourist mecca! There are numerous nature preserves, parks, art galleries, shops, great restaurants. On past Blog postings I have shared many of these.

This trip I focused only on Cave Point with the rock formation – Niagara Escarpment – there along the edge of Lake Michigan. Then a run up to the very end of the peninsula – to the car ferry that goes to Washington Island.

Nice to get away for a few hours.

Lots of kayakers -

seems to be a growing sport in many places.

View along trail at Cave Point.

The very "tip" of Door County

where the ferry takes one to Washington Island.

Notice how clear the water is.

I will be taking another run up to the “Door” soon.  This time to the Ridges – a very interesting UNESCO heritage sight.  Will post photos of this soon after my return.

Ryan Nature Preserve - Hike

Took a nature hike this week at the Ryan Nature Preserve and Park just a couple of miles from the gardens here on Lake Michigan. Have hiked that area a number of times in all seasons, but never did it in the middle of summer.

Lots of green here and there.  That is what I had expected. The foliage is really doing well, not a lot of blooming flowers now as there were in the Spring nor the colored leaves seen in Autumn.

This is the May Apple plant,
below is the May Apple

Just an opportunity to get out after many really hot and humid days.  Nice walking a number of miles, very very quite in the woods and as I said earlier – lots of green.

Beautiful blue on the fly.

Here I think someone drove a little far off the road!

Interesting moth.

RED, WHITE, AND BLUE -- INDEPENDENCE

Celebrating Independence Day – July 4th.

This week the USA celebrates its independence, with that in mind, I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our colors for the USA – Red, White, and Blue with a random splash of blooms of those same colors that are living here this summer in the Gardens at Waters East.  It is sort of my “version” of the fireworks done on the 4th.
