Run up to Door County in Wisconsin

Took a quick run up to Door County recently.  I like that place.  So many places to visit and things to experience.  No wonder it is a tourist mecca! There are numerous nature preserves, parks, art galleries, shops, great restaurants. On past Blog postings I have shared many of these.

This trip I focused only on Cave Point with the rock formation – Niagara Escarpment – there along the edge of Lake Michigan. Then a run up to the very end of the peninsula – to the car ferry that goes to Washington Island.

Nice to get away for a few hours.

The cave created by wave action on Lake Michigan

Thimbleberry Flowers

samples of ripe fruit from last summer

used in jams and sauces.

Lots of kayakers -

seems to be a growing sport in many places.

View along trail at Cave Point.

The very "tip" of Door County

where the ferry takes one to Washington Island.

Notice how clear the water is.

I will be taking another run up to the “Door” soon.  This time to the Ridges – a very interesting UNESCO heritage sight.  Will post photos of this soon after my return.

    1. This is a really big lake and almost like an ocean. All along the shore it is beautiful, some sand beaches, some rock cliff, all very nice.

  4. Oh, yes, the thimbleberries. Yum! When my family lived near Green Bay, we made many trips to Door County. As an adult, I've been there many times, too. It would be especially wonderful during this particular hot, dry summer. Cave Point is a favorite destination. Great photos!

    1. It is a great place for photos. Glad you enjoyed. Hopefully I will hear more from you again. A few years back I spent a month in Spain, mostly Madrid and the Mediterranean

  7. An incredible place. When the sea hits the rocks, it forms very interesting caves. Beautiful photos.
