EROSION - Gardens at Waters East

The shore at Gardens at Waters East has taken a real beating these last weeks.   Lake Michigan water levels are way up and so there is lots of serious erosion happening all around the lake.  Homes are falling into the lake and lots of property has been swallowed up by the waters.  Strong storms with very strong winds coming from the East have greatly increased the damage.

Here are some photos of “before” and “after” of the beach shore at the gardens.  Much of what you will see in the photos no longer exist!  It is gone!

Before the erosion and storms

You will see more of this oak tree in other photos.

 Notice the old Oak Tree

Here is the tree once again - and the wide shore.
It is no longer here - all gone!

 All gone.
Up to the very edge of the trees you see in this photo.

The above photos were before the erosion.
Now look at what has been happening to the shore.

Beyond the Watershed.3

This series is a collection of photos taken in Upper Michigan – the “UP” during the time of the Autumn colors.  This is the third, and last in the series - Beyond the Watershed.

This is a different Watershed from that of Gardens at Waters East.  The waters in the areas of these photos empty into Lake Superior, whereas the waters around the area of the Gardens at Waters East empty into Lake Michigan.

Degas - some words of wisdom!

On January 6th. of 2015, there was a posting of Plein Air paintings of the Gardens at Waters East.  Today’s posting is going to once again post those same three original artworks first published under the heading:  A Quote – Degas.  In this posting those three paintings will now be “contrasted” with photographs taken near where those paintings were created.  You’ll get to appreciate both the artist interpretation and the natural view as seen from a photograph.  Hope you like the “contrast” in this posting of the gardens here along the shores of Lake Michigan.
Enjoy

“A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, some fantasy. When you always make your meaning perfectly plain you end up boring people.”
Degas
