October 31, 2010 - Weekend Blog

Took some time off today and yesterday from my personal garden work and went to the beach and a nature preserve just to hike and enjoy the Fall air.  Colors mostly gone, but I love to walk through the dried leaves.  Like being a kid again.
Had three days of very windy weather this past week, like so much of the center of the country.  Here the winds were clocked at up to 69 mph.  That is really windy.  Thought at times my sunroom facing the garden was about to blow over the bluff into the lake!  Had a number of decorative pots blow over, even stones collected from the beach sitting on the patio table blew off.  No real damage to plants, except for a large trunk on a Corkscrew Willow that got bent.  All is still OK.
I and the garden wait for Winter to come. One can feel it in the air and even the sun as it moves closer to the horizon.  Soon, all the work will be done out-of-doors for the garden year.  Just a little here and there.  Then it will be time to start the garden winter projects and art work to be displayed next Spring.  Keeps my mind going when I can not be outside.  How about you?  What do you do for the winter to keep your gardening interest active?
