Today Gardens at Waters East “unveils”
the newest hybridized day lilies.
The plants were hybridized in 2009 and the first blooms appeared in the
last weeks. It has taken three
years to get to this point, and
you are the first to see these newest creations. It is always amazing to see what comes from crossing this
with that. Always a surprise.
This new series is titled: The Sweet Water Seas. That was the name often used by the
early European explores to this area of the Great Lakes. Each daylily has a name related to the
Great Lakes but in this posting only the code numbers will be used. (NOTE: Each
number before the “X”, designates a
different set of “parents”. Notice
how even with the same parents – there are striking variation with the
offspring).
This has indeed been
a labor of love – a long time in coming.
Hope you enjoy what
you see here today.

woww I love the day lilies, it´s dificult to say which one is the most beautiful! But the purple ones have to be among my favourits!
ReplyDeleteSensational new hybrids. What a great job!
ReplyDeleteGiven the possible variations, did they come out as you had planned / expected or was it more 'try and see'?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, they all look beautiful!Especially those which look like velvets. 3 years you had to wait until the daylilies flowered, it takes a lot of patience for such crossing experiments, you have my full admiration!
