I had always thought these were ducks. Surprise surprise!!! They are not. These water fowl are known as American Coots. For the last couple of days they have been gathering on a bay at Lake Mendota in Madison. Going South no doubt.
They may look like a duck – but have a very different leg and foot.

So I did and learned something new.
The first time i had a chance to see those feet, i was totally shocked.

DeleteOh yeah, I think I've seen these on Lake Waubesa, too. At migration time, it's amazing the diversity of birds traveling through! Great shots!
