A Day in the Garden - May 2023

  

 

Yesterday was an excellent day for working in the gardens. It was sunny and about 70 degrees, just right.  Got a lot of work done; digging holes for new plants, removing weeds, amending soil, general maintenance, etc. However, in the early part of the afternoon the winds changed and came in off the lake.  Anyone living near Lake Michigan knows what that means.  The temperature dropped form 70+ degrees down to 55 degrees in less than 5 minutes.   Got a little chilly for me. This is always a welcomed breeze during the hot days of July but not this early in the gardening season. The cold air coming onto the land forms a ground fog.  Looks haunting.

 

Before the change in temperature, I took some photos of the garden keeping thus record of what is blooming when.  There are a number of additional early spring flowers that have opened since the last posting of the early blooms here in the garden which was posted on April 14^th titled “Quote”.2  just in case you want to check those out. Things are looking good.

Want a "Quickie" ? Today May 1, 2023

One would think, or even expect, now that it is May 1^st that Winter would long be gone.

NOT SO!!!

Woke up this morning thinking I would walk the gardens and see more Spring flowers in bloom.  NOT SO!!!

To my surprise, even more my dismay it is snowing – AGAIN.

Will it even end???

 Want a “Quickie” ? Today

 

Sitting here preparing to put together a Blog posting for tomorrow when I noticed the hibiscus - “Hawaiian” blooming off to my right.  It is the start of a new blooming session, the second one since the plant was brought indoors for the winter.

A really brilliant red. Nice to see that at this time of year when I see at the same time that it is blooming, it is snowing AGAIN outside!!!

Enough Already!!!

A "Quote" .2 Life

No doubt the coming season has every gardener looking forward to visiting garden centers or paging through garden magazines.  It is in our blood as we can feel that Spring is going to happen soon.  Must be the root of addiction.

 

“Life is short,

buy the plants.”

 

Always lots from which to choose.  We all feel that we really do need larger and larger gardens so we can get all that we want!
