Allen Centennial Garden

The Allen Centennial Garden is a free public garden of 2.5 acres on the grounds of the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  The grounds feature the Agricultural Dean’s House, a brick Queen Anne-style home build in 1896.  It was the home of the first four deans of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

In 1984, the house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The major emphasis within the garden is on herbaceous ornamental perennials but the site features many other plantings including annuals and woody plants. There are 21 individually themed gardens with thousands of different perennial, annuals, shrubs and tree and a koi pond.

This post is a contrast of photos of the Autumn and Winter seasons.  Trust me, the summer flowers are beautiful, but that will have to wait.

Great place to take a break and just relax for some quiet time at the university.

  8. Hello, :=) Thank you for your visit, but let me tell you if I may, that it is the Algarve goat that is indigenous to Portugal, not goat herding, an easy mistake to make. Your photos of the garden with pond and the impressive historical house are lovely. It must take many gardeners to tend to the twenty one themed gardens within this huge expanse of land. I can well imagine how glorious it all looks when trees and plants are in bloom.
    Enjoy your weekend.:=)
